A little bit more about this project...
Masculine Expressions of my Creative Prowess resolutely occupies the here-and-now moment in performance. Whether in a shared glance, in a verbal exchange, or in a joint dance, it seeks a closeness with its audience. It is porous, leaving gaps for improvised input or participation. It invites a sense of risk.

Using live art vocabularies, the project is primarily image-based. Though text is used, it's sparse. Instead, notions of corporeality and materiality become strategies to go beyond discursive language. Personal stories, poetic lists, songs and sampled sounds/speeches are juxtaposed with dance-like moments, sculptural actions, audience interaction, and the ritualistically charged use of totemic objects.

Though partly autobiographical, I’m resisting that label because the project approaches its subject from a broader, more associative angle. It explores the plurality hidden beneath the monolithic notion of ‘masculinity’, addressing the interplay between conventionally oppositional concepts: hard/soft, tender/brutal, humorous/serious, truthful/deceitful, plaintive/celebratory, masculine/feminine...
